Most pipe problems don’t need a full repipe. Here’s what we fix every week across Los Angeles:
Pinhole leaks are tiny holes that eat through copper from the inside. In the Valley, hard water and high water pressure are the usual causes. We cut out the bad section and put in new pipe with press or solder fittings, then check your water pressure. If it’s over 80 psi, we’ll suggest a pressure regulator so new leaks don’t start. If you’ve had three or more pinhole leaks, the pipe is thinning everywhere, and replacing that run is the smarter fix.
A burst pipe can dump gallons of water a minute. We stop the water, replace the broken section, pressure-test the line and help you dry things out. We can also give you photos and a written report for your insurance claim.
A water stain, soft drywall, a musty smell or a meter that keeps spinning with all taps off usually means a hidden leak. We use leak detection tools like moisture meters and thermal cameras to find it, so we open the wall in one small spot, not five.

Galvanized steel pipe was used in many homes built before the 1970s. After 50+ years it rusts inside, which causes brown water, low pressure and leaks. We replace it with PEX-A or copper, room by room or all at once.
Polybutylene is a gray plastic pipe used from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. It’s known to crack and burst without warning, and some insurers charge more or refuse coverage for homes that still have it. Replacing it protects your home and can make it easier to insure and sell.

Repair if it’s one leak and your pipes are under about 30 years old. Consider repiping if you’ve had two or more leaks in a year, have rusty water from galvanized pipe, or have polybutylene. We’ll tell you honestly which one fits.
The most common causes are hard water, high water pressure (over 80 psi) and water chemistry that slowly wears copper from the inside. Fixing the leak and lowering the pressure helps stop new ones.

Small leak repairs usually don’t. Repiping and replacing water lines typically need an LADBS plumbing permit and inspection. Hi-Tech pulls the permit and meets the inspector for you.
