What you get with your installation:
It depends on where you live. LADWP blends water from the Eastern Sierra, the Colorado River and local wells, so two homes ten miles apart can have very different water. Here’s what LADWP’s latest report shows:

Anything above 7 grains per gallon counts as hard water, so most of the Valley qualifies. LADWP also adds chloramine to keep water safe, which is the pool-like taste many people notice. A softener fixes hardness but not taste; for that, pair it with a water filtration system.
Hard water rarely announces itself. It shows up as small, annoying problems that people blame on other things.

A softener only works as well as it’s sized and installed. Too small, and it runs out of soft water by evening. Too big, and it wastes salt and water every time it cleans itself. So every Hi-Tech installation starts with a free hardness test at your home, then we size the system to your hardness, household and water use.
On install day, we connect the softener at your main water line with a bypass valve, so you can switch it off without shutting off your water. We run the drain with a code-required air gap, add shut-off valves, pressure-test every connection and program the settings for your water. Before we leave, you’ll know how to add salt, read the display and use the bypass.
Many store-bought softeners fail early because of how they were installed, not because the unit is bad. Whether yours came from Costco, Home Depot or online, Hi-Tech will check that it’s the right size for your water and install it properly, usually in 2–4 hours. If your home doesn’t have a softener loop (the pipe connection a softener hooks into), we’ll add one.
